pop music.

in honor of the NYC Popfest which is beginning today, i loaded my ipod up with all twee/C-86/indie pop stuff to listen to as i walked around the city & read in the park this week. i think it's the perfect music for this time of year. so, here are some of my favorite songs from that glorious C-86 era:

The Brilliant Corners "Why Do You Have To Go Out With Him"

Primal Scream "Velocity Girl"

The Soup Dragons "Hang-Ten!"

14 Iced Bears "Balloon Song"

The Sea Urchins "Pristine Christine"

The June Brides "In The Rain"

The Field Mice "If You Need Someone"

McCarthy "Should The Bible Be Banned?"

The Pastels "Million Tears"

The Desert Wolves "Love Scattered Lives"

true story: when I met Stuart Murdoch for the first time several years ago, we had a chat about "twee pop" & it turns out he hates the Razorcuts & the Field Mice. but he loves McCarthy & he was actually the first person to clue me into the greatness of the Servants, the June Brides, & the Brilliant Corners. yeah, that's right. thanks Stu.
